The Paper Plate Project

The Paper Plate Project, spearheaded by Paul Heath, BTSALP Visual Art Specialist at Newman and Bennion Elementary Schools in Salt Lake City School District, is a service project to raise awareness of all the good the Utah Food Bank is doing for our schools and families at this critical time.

Elementary students from Bennion, Bonneville, Ensign, Meadowlark, Newman and Rose Park, were introduced to the important social justice work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Cesar Chavez, along with local examples of programs helping the community like The Salt Lake Education Foundation and the Utah Food Bank. Each student created artwork, designs and themes of their choosing to decorate their paper plate.

The PTA, Student “Paw Patrol” Leaders, the Beverley Taylor Sorenson Arts Learning Program, the University of Utah’s Arts Bridge Program and students and faculty in the Family and Consumer Studies department at the University of Utah partnered with the Paper Plate Project  by creating plates and providing administrative assistance. Money raised from the Paper Plate Project with the Utah Food Bank to bring much needed relief to families in need.
