Art In Transit

In the spring of 2020 Brooke Smart, a visual artist was brought to Logan as a resident artist with both Cache County School District and Logan City School District. Brooke Smart is a visual artist collaborating with Better Days, a Utah organization celebrating both Utah and national suffrage by honoring women throughout history. Though Brooke was able to complete a five-day residency in the schools, working with 4^th grade students at Wilson Elementary and BTS Arts Visual Art Educator Sheree Given. Due to the pandemic the Art in Transit: From Schools to Community project was postponed.

During the spring of 2021, Aurora Hughes Villa and Addison Odum came into the classroom to work alongside BTS Arts Visual Art Educator Sheree Given to continue the project. 5^th grade students from Wilson Elementary completed their watercolor portraits of women and personalized block prints. Through a collaboration between River Heights Elementary School students and BTS Arts Visual Art Educators Laura Hawley and Lewiston Elementary School students and BTS Arts Visual Art Educator Mandi Sigg, a design was created for the 2021-2022 Art in Transit bus. The artwork is a collaboration between the three schools and the Cache Valley Transit Department to create a vibrant exterior bus wrap including interior bus placards in honor of Utah State University’s theme, Year of the Woman.
