Amanda Carter’s love and dedication to the arts has helped her bring children’s natural creativity into the classroom. One of her most loved lessons, “Sound Wave,” helps students gain confidence in understanding how sound waves work in the world.
Students listen to music and are encouraged to draw what they hear. They also watch videos of sound waves made by various instruments and highlight artists who work in music and film. Students often take great pride in their personal sound waves!
Last year Ms. Carter proposed to have a rotating permanent collection of student artwork, Wildcats Art Exhibit, displayed at Pahvant Elementary in Richfield, Utah.
Every year, the school will purchase one piece of art from each of the upper grades
Ms. Carter secured a grant that helps the school pay each artist $15 for their work and purchase framing and other display materials.
The art is returned to students when they move on to middle school. Principal Chad Johnson shared:
“It has been fun to see the creative lessons and energy [Ms. Carter] brings to her lessons. She has shared her excitement and love of art with our students, and it has been contagious throughout our school.”

Amanda often paints and draws with her young daughter, who is looking forward to being an art teacher when she grows up! Amanda enjoys using acrylic and watercolor paints in her personal work and loves making art and collages with paper scraps.
Ms. Carter teaches at both Pahvant Elementary and Monroe Elementary in Sevier County.
