Angee Tanner is a BTS Arts dance teacher at Alpine Elementary in Alpine School District. She loves integrating core subjects with movement so her students can embody and learn the concepts more deeply, while being creative and using their energy! Below are some examples of how she engages her students through dance.

“In our creative movement class we use critical thinking skills to solve problems in science, math, and social studies. Our students at Alpine Elementary express understanding of core curricula ideas through physical demonstration. Our students create compositions that joyfully reflect their proficiency in a variety of subjects while using the art form of dance.”
“Our 5th graders in the creative movement class study the process of “Writing Bills – Passing Laws.” To replicate this process in our classroom, we create “classroom constitutional laws” and then students form committees to pass a law in “Mock Congress.” This law must be written using dance elements to create a danceable 60-second composition not breaking our agreed upon constitution. Any classmate should be able to follow and perform this written law if it is handed to them. Our students come away with a deep understanding of the role of the U.S. Congress and the process of writing laws and passing laws. Dancing in Mock Congress can be really fun!”

We are proud of Ms. Tanner and her students for their creativity and hard work!
