Patterns, Patterns Everywhere – Part II (Grades 4-6)
December 31, 2020Hello BTSALP Arts Educators,
I hope this blog finds each of you well, safe, and happy as we are approaching the Holiday Season and working in our ever-changing environments. As I said last month, each of you, along with your hard-working classroom teacher colleagues are the heroes keeping the momentum of arts education throughout this difficult time. If there is anything we can do to make your journey a little bit easier, please reach out any time. My email is rpenerosa@westminstercollege.edu and I’m eager to help in any way I can!
The article we have chosen for this month is:
Wan, Y., Ludwig, M., & Boyle, A. (2020). The role of arts integration and education in improving student outcomes. State Education Standard, 20(1), 36-41.
The full article can be found here: bit.ly/BTSALPResearchNov20
Here is a little bit of information about this article:
In this article, I hope you see how the BTSALP in Utah is already reaching many of these goals with advocacy and public/privatepartnerships. This article offers the following recommendations for State board members who seek policy-relevant research: (1) Encourage districts to gauge the theoretical and empirical support for arts integration or arts education interventions they wish to adopt; (2) Ask whether and how your state’s education department is collaborating with other states to design systems for collecting and sharing data on arts participation and achievement; and (3) Advocate for partnerships between independent organizations and researchers to support more rigorous research and thus stronger evidence for arts integration and arts education.
We hope you are able to check out this article and look forward to reaching out again next month to share another bit of current research in our field!
Warm Regards,
Rebecca Penerosa, Ph.D.
